SWIFF Activities
Below each WP leader describes the science and activity of each WP. The information is cross linked with the main SWIFF web page.
- WP1: management activities.
- WP2: Multi-scale, multi-physics software tools
- WP3: Coupling at the solar surface
- WP4: Solar wind interaction with the magnetosphere
- WP5: Coupling at the Earth
- WP6: Dissemination
Outreach activities: Swiff is committed to the outreach towards the European society.
Collaborations outside Swiff: Swiff is an open collaborative effort, where collaborations with other european projects and international collaborations are a central theme.
Dissemination Activities within Swiff
Two key aspects of SWIFF are the publication of articles in refereed journals and the presentations at conferences (in the form of posters or oral communications):
We keep records of SWIFF related papers published or submitted for publication, and conference presentations. Every member of SWIFF can directly put their publications and presentations here:
The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under the grant agreement SWIFF (project n° 263340, www.swiff.eu).
All talks and poster funded by SWIFF must show the flag of the EU, the logo of the FP7 and the SWIFF logo. These are provided on the main SWIFF web page.
We have given in depth thought at our Dissemination Plan.
SWIFF has its description on wikipedia: SWIFF on wikipedia
Benchmark Activities
As part of WP2 and WP4, we are preparing a number of benchmark that can test:
- the effect of using different numerical methods for a given mathematical-physics model
- the effect of using different mathematical-physics models for the same physical system
- tests of our diagnostics, for example different visualisations, study of topology, study of QSL.
We are considering the following benchmarks:
- Spontaneous Turbulence in Reconnection in 2D and in 3D
- Longcope-Strauss Problem in 2D
- Magnetopause Challenge in 2D
- Three arcade break-out model in 2D
- CME Initiation Challenge in 3D
- One flux rope
A preliminary overview of one-fluid MHD realizations for the 3 first 2D challenges using MPI-AMRVAC is given here.
The (internal) report on the Magnetopause Challenge is available here: Report on Magnetopause Challenge.
SWIFF News
- The current latest news are kept on the main SWIFF web page.
- Click here for the past news
- Continuing Reporting to the program officer.
SWIFF Meetings
- The upcoming general meetings are advertised on the main SWIFF web page
- The minutes in wiki format of the past consortium-wide meetings are here.
- Planned smaller meetings of interested to a subset of SWIFFers are listed instead on Current Meetings.
- Past smaller meetings of interested to a subset of SWIFFers are listed under SWIFF Visits and Subset Meetings. An important part of SWIFF is the collaboration between members. We try to keep a list of visits among members. All members who go on travel visiting other SWIFF members are encouraged to add to the list.
SWIFF Reports
All reporting is now occurring online. Reports should be turned in to the Coordinator in PDF format. The Coordination Team will in turn submit them to the online system.
Reference material ach beneficiary should read:
- ftp://ftp.cordis.europa.eu/pub/fp7/docs/project-reporting_en.pdf
- http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/find-doc_en.html
For reference on reporting and other issues, please, review the talks by KU Leuven and by the program officer during the kick-off meeting and the official document web site of FP7: FP7 Documents.
Deliverable reports
Deliverable reports are due to the Coordinator within 2 weeks of the deadline listed in the deliverable table of Annex I. The lead Beneficiary is responsible for meeting the deadline. In turn, the Coordinator is responsible for providing the reports to the Program Officer.
The deliverable reports should start with the coverpage provided here:
Cover Page Template
Lead beneficiaries of Swiff Reports are encouraged to upload their reports to the SpaceWeather Document Repository: [1]. The authors must be careful not to upload any copyrighted material.
First semiannual progress report
Here we will collect our input on the status so far. Suggestion, organize it by deliverable and milestone and for each provide a brief description of the activities done highlighting the collaborations between different centers. A template will be provided after the Lapland meeting.
First semiannual status report
For future reference on reporting and other issues, please, review the talks by KU Leuven and by the program officer during the kick-off meeting and the official document web site of FP7: FP7 Documents
